With many of us having spent more time at home over the past couple of years than we used to, it’s natural that you may be feeling like it’s time for an update. Yet, choosing a new rug for a space can be overwhelming with the countless different combinations of tones, textures, styles, materials, and more. Whether you’re replacing a current rug or purchasing one for the first time, here are a few in-style rug trends that will breathe new life into your home for 2022 and beyond.

This coming year will be all about rugs that breathe fresh life into the traditional cozy comforts of home. While the days of minimalism are not exactly behind us, people are ready to be a little more unconventional and confident about their use of colour – daring to try brighter palettes and bolder patterns. There is also an increased demand for sustainable rugs, produced under responsible environmental practices, as well those that highlight craftsmanship. Finally, travel restrictions have encouraged us to bring the destination home, with more far-flung and figurative designs popping up in rugs for the home.

1. Very Peri – Pantone’s Colour of the Year

The first rug trend of 2022 brings Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Very Peri, underfoot. Fresh and complementary, Very Peri is a periwinkle blue with violet red undertones that Pantone says “encourages personal inventiveness and creativity” – an energy we can always use a little more of. What’s especially great about this animated colour is how nicely it pairs with not only lighter tones but also richer greens, browns, and mahoganies.

2. Bright Palette

Many people shy away from bold and bright colours; however, when selected with care, rugs with bright palettes are an easy and effective way to infuse life into any space. ‘Mismatched’ colours can surprise and delight on one well-designed rug, opening up avenues of potential for effectively bringing a multitude of colours into play elsewhere in the same space.
